Hypnotic Hoysala: Halebidu-Belur-Shravanbelgola-Somnathapura tour

Hypnotic Hoysala is an immersive heritage journey through the extraordinary architectural, sculptural and cultural world of the Hoysala dynasty in Karnataka. Rather than simply visiting famous monuments, the journey invites participants to look closely at the ideas, stories, beliefs and artistic traditions embedded in Hoysala temples.

Led by heritage experts, the experience explores the deeper philosophical, mythological, artistic and spiritual dimensions of Hoysala architecture and sculpture.

Participants encounter celebrated monuments at Belur and Halebidu, while also discovering lesser-known masterpieces at Doddagaḍḍavalli and Belavadi.

A distinctive feature of the journey is the opportunity to meet local communities of traditional sculptors who continue to practise stone carving. These encounters offer a rare opportunity to understand how knowledge, skills and artistic traditions are transmitted across generations and how the making of sacred art continues to evolve in the present.

The journey also explores the remarkable diversity of Hoysala temple architecture, from Ekakuta and Dvikuta to Trikuta and Chatushkuta temple plans.

At Shravanabelagola, participants encounter the monumental image of Bahubali and explore the region’s Jain heritage, sacred landscape and local cuisine. Hypnotic Hoysala ultimately seeks to transform temple-visiting into a deeper encounter with art, architecture, philosophy, craftsmanship, religion and living heritage.
